Micah Global and the Russian Church launch Micah Russia

Having attended the Micah Global Triennial in 2015 and then a regional Micah Consultation in Moldova in April 2016, Alexey Ivshin was inspired to invite Micah to Russia. His vision became a reality when we all gathered in Moscow from the 24th to 26th November 2016. “What a privilege to partner with Christians in Russia and to see so many participants taking part in this first joint conference,” says Sheryl Haw, International Director of Micah Global.

Micah Moldova National Co-ordinator, Vladimir Ubeivolc, presented at the two-day gathering, sharing his incredible personal story and the impact of integral mission in his own community. Johannes Reimer, author and renowned speaker, was also a keynote speaker at the gathering. “A conference on social justice and integral mission in Russia? This by itself is a miracle! And that up to 300 people attended from many parts of the country and Central Asia, is also amazing. The interest in Micah and our mission was overwhelming.”

Micah Global was warmly welcomed to the region by Head Bishop Edward Grabovenko of the Russian Church of Christians of Evangelical Faith. The Micah team also used the opportunity to have meetings with church leaders from the Baptist Union and National Evangelical Alliance in Russia. Pastor Aleksey Ivshin, whose role focuses on issues around Rehabilitation and the Church, hosted the meeting at his church. “The church is designed to be the salt of the earth,” he says, “And believers are not there to just pray and preach – but we are to be the first to respond to social injustice and the problems of society.”

“It was encouraging to see how churches have responded to the need to help people caught up with addictions to drugs and alcohol and in the churches we visited have all developed rehabilitation initiatives. A number of the participants attending were able to share testimonies of change having worked in or gone through the rehabilitation programmes”, says Sheryl.

Micah Global is excited about the developing partnership within Russia and is looking forward to our Eastern European and Central Asia Consultation in Moldova later this year.
