Addressing Gender and Leadership Gaps in Development-Oriented Organizations
by Amy Reynolds Nikki Toyama-Szeto
As Micah Global’s mission statement notes, we are a community that is “committed to integral mission.” Integral mission inherently calls on the proclamation and demonstration of the whole Gospel. The fullness of living this integral mission is met by a commitment to reconciliation, and the participation of the global church—inclusive of women and men.
We argue that commitments to gender justice, while an important piece, must also include attention to leadership dynamics within their organizations. Relying on local and global case studies, in this paper, we discuss why gender issues matter, the importance of thinking about culture, and strategies to help organizations amplify women’s voices within their mission-driven communities.
